Somewhere, a few weeks ago, I read a great criticism of functionalism that completely clarified for me why it's a problematic approach. I thought at the time that it would be wonderful to use in a paper I'm writing. Now I'm writing and can't remember where I read the argument, or even what it was.

Bah.

i am in need of a good critique of functionalism myself...that paradigm creeps into my thinking sometimes. It can appear disguised as an irresistible fix now and again. I am not on here much, but since I am at my parents house with little to do but surf the web, play boardgames, and put my feet by the fire, I thought I'd check in on what you've been up to. Hope you're enjoying time with your family. I like the protestant ethic gif on your coverpage.

"Feet up by the fire"? It's almost 20 degrees in Palm Beach! You're going to be in for a shock when you get back here--I don't think it's stopped snowing since you left.

Family time's been fun. It's nice having everyone in one house. My sister bought a '90s edition of Trivial Pursuit, so we've been playing that. My siblings and I thought it would be easier playing a version based on a decade we were actually around for, but quickly discovered that we were wrong. We've now switched to blaming it on the American slant of the questions. ;)
