I need to buy a thermometer. Our landlords turned off the heat a couple of weeks ago, and it's cold in here--I really don't think we're at the legal minimum of 21 degrees! I feel a little guilty about wanting the heat up, though, and the energy required to do it. The temperatures aren't dangerous, just uncomfortable. And layers and blankets and having both a cat and a laptop on my lap will all make it bearable. There are only a couple more weeks of cold, right?

Wait... you're in Toronto, yes?

It's illegal for your landlord to turn off your heat or deny you access to heat (if you control the thermostat) from September 15th to June 1st inclusive. Doesn't matter what the temperature is - June 1st is the soonest they can legally turn off the heat.

Thanks! I'll probably give the landlords a call soon to remind them of the illegality of the situation. Especially since Environment Canada is forecasting *snow* this week. (Okay, only flurries, but still.)
