No cable means no presidential debate for me. I'll have to rely on what other people say about it. Instead, I'm watching 28 Days. What I've realized so far is that if this is in anyway an accurate depiction of a drug treatment facility, I'd better not aquire any addictions. If I were in a program like that, I'd spend my time perpetually pissed off because of the numerous "yay God" references and the assumption that everyone was Christian. And eventually, I'd probably end up pissing off everyone else too.

So how's the debate?

sorry - only a follow up to 28 Days. I've had the same thought - more that all the praying would drive me right back to the coke...
But I think it's sort of the same phenomenon of why some smart kids have such trouble in school. They know their teacher (facilitator/ counsellor when you get older) is an idiot, but they can't do anything about it, and the teacher is holding all the keys. Terrible.

On a very late note

So true. I had a problem like that with one high school teacher in particular. She was very nice, but a complete airhead, always talking about how hard it was to read primary sources. Gave me a lousy mark on my history paper in part because she didn't understand it.* (I went and read Camus rather than watching Lost Highway, as she wanted me to. I was a pretentious little thing back then. One good thing graduate school did was teach me humility.) I learned a useful lesson about writing for my audience from that.

*She also wasn't entirely incorrect in arguing that I hadn't tied in the historical element as well as I should have, and that was undoubtedly part of why I did poorly too. But certainly not the whole reason.
