Inspired by a recent post in [livejournal.com profile] cooking, I made some biscotti this afternoon. Four kinds, in total: lemon, vanilla almond, cinnamon, and double chocolate cherry. It turned out better than I expected, flavourwise, considering that I mixed the dough and then added the flavouring agents after separating it. Cookingwise, I toasted it a little too long on the second baking, but otherwise it turned out well. I especially like the double chocolate cherry.

In tangential news, B is going to be organizing a session at a conference in Urbania, Italy in July. Schedule permitting, I may go with him. Yay, Italy!

Mmm, biscotti! I've never made that, but I may try sometime if I get brave enough. Jim gets a lot of that from his workplace, and it's always awesome.

By the way, may I say that waiting for admissions decisions from U of T is driving me totally f'ing insane? I really want to go there, and the not knowing if I'm going to get to is maddening.

Biscotti actually isn't that hard to make. Only about five ingredients, plus flavouring. Standard baking procedures, apart from baking it twice (once in loaf form and once sliced, to give it that nice crispness).

Yeah, I'm surprised the department hasn't sent out admissions yet. Last year they were out by this time. I think it often depends on who the grad chair is, though, and we have a different one this year than last year. And yet another next year: we can't seem to keep 'em!

In past years they've emailed informally before sending out a formal acceptance, so keep an eye on your email.

Cool- that's reassuring about the biscotti- it just seems so different from average baked goods that I guess I figured it must be difficult. Well, now I have a new project!

I emailed Professor Baumann yesterday to ask when he thought decisions would be out, I hope I hear back from him soon... I really have my heart set on U of T, I'll be rather bummed if I don't get in.

*sigh* Shyon doesn't know anything yet, but he said he'll let me know when he does.
For now, I guess I'll just go focus on this monster Buddhist Art exam I have Thursday. Must concentrate!!

Yes, concentrate and graduate. Nothing you can do about admissions now. (I'm sure that's not helpful to hear.) Good luck with your exam!

Wow, that sounds like a more productive weekend than mine was :)

Italy, huh? See, if you were smart and went in June, then we could hang out together in Venice.

June, huh? Originally we were going to go to Europe in May, but then the conference came up...

Well, you never know. Where else are you going?

We're going to Galway, Ireland, via London and Dublin, then going to Rome, Florence, Cinque Terre, Venice and possibly Verona or Milan. Because my hubby's going for a conference as well (in Galway), our dates are basically fixed: June 14-17 in Galway, the next two weeks in Italy.

Well, there is a possibility that we could vacation before the conference rather than after. That would have us overlapping with you. I suspect it will depend on airfares and B's stress level. But I'll keep in touch with you about it. :) (I don't know where in Italy we'll be, either, even if we are there earlier.)
