I've got two meetings today. One runs over lunch (11:00-2:30) and one runs over dinner (6:00-8:30). I suppose that works out after a fashion--late lunch followed by a late dinner--but I'd really like to know why people as this university have such a fondness for scheduling things during meal times.

No other time, thats probably why.

Ive scheduled meetings over meals because all other times are blocked. However, I always provide food for people I meet with during meals or meet in restaurants.

For lunch, I think you're correct that it was the only time available. As it turns out, we went out for lunch during the meeting, so I didn't starve. As for supper, 6:00 seems to be the standard start time for all evening activities here. I haven't figured out why, but I find it mildly irritating because I'm never hungry at 5:00.

If it were a department event, they would feed us. But tonight's meeting is run by the Graduate Student Union, and I don't think they have enough money to feed everyone. They do offer food after the meeting, but that's because they know most people won't stay.

There will be like 80 people there tonight. I can't afford that much food! Would have worked well this morning, though. Oh well--next time! :)
